Velmariqa / About us

Velmariqa — a Canadian review desk

A small team of writers and testers that has been documenting game platforms for Canadian readers, working to a fixed process and publishing the reasoning behind every review.

Velmariqa started from a simple observation: plenty is written about game platforms, but very little of it is checkable. What usually gets compared is promotional copy rather than the platforms themselves. We built a fixed scoring frame instead, and we apply it to every platform in the same way.

The desk works from Toronto for readers across Canada. Testing happens on both desktop and mobile, across at least three sessions at different times of day, so that load behaviour under varying demand is part of the picture rather than an afterthought.

Velmariqa runs no games of its own, brokers no accounts and processes no payments. Every outbound link points to the game's official website, and we take no commission when a reader follows one.

APrinciples
01

Editorial and commercial stay apart

No entry can be purchased. If a piece were ever commissioned, it would say so in the first paragraph, not in a footnote.

02

Only what we can support

We publish what we tested ourselves. Third-party claims are attributed, and anything unverified is labelled as unverified.

03

Corrections in public

Mistakes are fixed on the review and noted in the text. Readers and operators can both submit corrections.

04

Measured language

No superlatives and no encouragement to play. We describe platforms; we do not promote them.

BHow the desk is organised

Editorial lead

Sets the review queue, signs off every published review and handles corrections.

Field testers

Two testers per platform, working independently on separate accounts and devices.

Fact-checking

Cross-references every factual claim against the operator's own published pages.

CReview process
  1. 1Select

A game enters our review queue through reader interest or sustained relevance. Placement cannot be purchased.

  2. 2Field test

Two reviewers use separate devices over at least three sessions and record observations against the same framework.

  3. 3Score

Every criterion receives a written assessment before the overall rating is calculated.

  4. 4Verify

Factual claims are checked against current official material; anything uncertain is marked accordingly.

  5. 5Revisit

Published reviews return to the queue after a substantial platform change or a credible reader correction.

DScoring frame
01Access and onboarding
We record how clearly a platform explains its account requirements, controls and first-session flow before a player commits time.
02Catalogue structure
We assess navigation, search, categories and whether useful game information remains easy to find as the catalogue expands.
03Technical performance
Testing covers load behaviour, stability and everyday use on desktop and a typical Canadian mobile connection.
04Interface and readability
We examine contrast, control sizing, advertising density and how much screen space remains available for the game itself.
05Operator transparency
We check published terms, age information, account rules and privacy material against the claims presented by the platform.
06Support and maintenance
We document support routes, help material and whether the platform's essential information appears current and maintained.
